If only the Wachowski Bros could say, reinvent the western genre then they might just follow the Coen Bros (No Country For Old Men) all the way to the Oscars. When it's good it's astonishing and when it's bad it's totally pointless. Watching Speed Racer is a real mixture of highs and lows. Yet Speed Racer is only the fourth movie they've directed since after letting James McTeigue shoot their V for Vendetta script. Still only aged 42 and 40 respectively, the Chicago-born brothers arrived in style in1996 with their brilliantly-inventive 108-minute thriller Bound. So why let the running time hit a bloated 135 minutes?īlame the director siblings Larry and Andy Wachowski, whose Matrix trilogy also developed morbidly-obese symptoms.
